Building a barbecue pit

We were given a load of bricks the other day, from a friend who salvaged them from a house he demolished. We plan on using them to build a barbecue pit. I have it all sketched out, but the one thing I'm not sure of is where to get the actual grill plates to cook on? Can these be purchased on their own or would I be better off cannibalizing an old grill?

I imagine you could find some new grill plates somewhere. If you have old grills available, though, I'd try those plates first and see if they will work for your pit. Have fun building!

I would think you could buy new grill plates, too, but I'm sure not having any luck finding them locally. You would think the stores would sell those, wouldn't you? I guess they'd rather you buy a whole new grill.
