Grilled Oysters

I love oysters but have ceased to be able to eat them raw. In my search for new ways to fix them I found this link to grilled oysters. It sounds simple except for the exploding part. Have any of you ever grilled oysters?

Here's the Hawaii version of grilled oysters. We call this Opihi. It's a shelled creature that live on the rocky shores at the beach. You just scrape it off with a sharp tool or rock and it comes off easy.

We just place it on the grill like so, and pour your favorite sauce on the meat. The sauce will heat up and the meat will come off the shell on it's own. No work needed to cook. Just watch for the meat to pop off the shell and that's it.

It is good. You can even eat it raw, which I do all the time. Once I get it off the rock I usually peel it off the shell and eat it on the spot.

You can no longer eat raw oysters? I'm so sorry. I love them. I haven't tried them grilled but now I want to, so I'm going to pick some up and fire up the grill. Thanks!

Those look so good Josh. I'll bet I can't get them in the states and if I did they wouldn't be nearly as fresh. I really think you should have us all over for a cookout soon. :)

The truth is I have never had oysters. The closest I think that I have ever come to eating something like that is eating conch. It is really tasty. I think that the oysters is something that I would like to try and it looks like it might be really tasty.

I don't think anyone is going to pay that kind of money for a plane ticket to Hawaii, just for a barbecue. If you did, then tell me how to do it, because I need to be making that kind of money.

I usually steam mine and eat them with a squirt of lemon and hot sauce. Grilled could work too...I imagine it's very similar to Josh's method. I might have to give this one a try. My husband can't stand it when the house smells like steamed seafood.

Conch is great; I love it too. You really should try oysters. They are absolutely delicious, cooked well or served raw with some horseradish. Don't let the appearance put you off.

The only time I every had conch was when we caught one. I steamed it and it was so tough and chewy it was hard to eat. Is there a secret to cooking them that I don't know about?

I love oyster and sadly am the only one in my family that does. I bet they are fantastic grilled although the exploding part is a little worrisome. I love them raw with lemon juice.

Wow! I have never heard of grilled oysters. @Thyme2, I too am the only one in the family who eats them unfortunately. So I don't get to have them so often.
