Weekend Grilling

It's still pretty warm and humid here, but I've got an itch and it needs to be scratched. I love chicken thighs cooked on the grill, but not nearly as much when they're cooked in the oven or stove top, so I'm going to grill some up this weekend. I'll also cook up some potatoes, eggplant, and red and green bell peppers while I'm grilling.

Is anyone else grilling this weekend?

Yes...

Have two Boston Butts going into one of my BGE's in the morning. Had them on sale here for $1.29 lb so the wife wanted to do some, eat a bit and then food save the rest so she could have some when I head south for the snow bird season. This is her last year teaching then she will head south with me. Might be able to snag a bag for myself if I play my cards right.

Diane I too like thighs and/or fryer leg quarters. I have a Holland grill which in my opinion which means nothing is the best chicken cooker around. Crisps up the skin like a potato chip and produces the most moist chicken I have ever had. No flare ups is an added bonus when grilling chicken. We are also huge eggplant eaters here my wife does then all the time and we have also done some on the grill hate to keep mentioning the Holland but we do them on that also with a little bit of their breader mix on the slices. Comes out great.

I grilled up some beef tongue Friday. Something different. Thinking of smoking a turkey next week.

How long did you cook the tongue for, @jason? I've only had tongue in tacos, and they are always delicious. I've never cooked it myself, but if I saw it at the market, I might consider buying it. I never would have thought to grill it, though. I'll have to look around for some recipes.

@tiewunon I've never heard of a Holland grill, are they expensive? It sounds like they do a good job with chicken, how about other things like pork chops?

Diane,
I have seen their patio model grills from $450 - 1200+. Their portable Companion model from $220-280. I want to caveat on the Hollands they are not for everyone. Patio models have one setting "On". They can grill, smoke, steam and bake with most models.
The Companion has 3 settings low, med, high. Holland recommends cooking on med it emulates their patio models at that setting for cooking times. You can not steam with the Companion.
All Holland grills have the no flare up guarantee. However under the perfect conditions I think it would flare up though I have never seen one do it and I have had a Holland since 1996.
They are made in the US in Georgia and home office is in NC.
On their website they list where the have cooking demo's if one is near yo Oh ur house check them out.

My mom and dad use to cook beef tongue quite often. I really liked it and would always look forward to my visits there. I am not sure how they even cooked it. It is also good cold on a sandwich. I haven't had it since they passed away. Not sure I would even know what to do with it and I know nobody in my family would eat it. When I even mention it they gagg.

Thanks @tiewunon those are all out of my budget right now, but who knows about the future. I'd probably get a patio model. I like the idea of a no flare up guarantee, although i do like a little charring on some things I cook. Made in the USA is A-ok with me ;).

The wife boiled it first. Took a few hours, I want to say six. Then you have to sort of peel it. Then I sliced it thin and grilled it for a few minutes a side.

Yeah my whole family did not even want to try it. I cannot remember ever having it. My wife tried it. My friend took a tiny pinch and said its texture was too close to liver. I think the kids had some. I just youtubed some videos on it and improvised. I would do it again if for nothing else then sandwhiches.
