Why do people usually enter BBQ competitions? I know a few people who just do it for fun among other friends and others who do it for bragging rights (and like the others said trying to be the best). The prizes usually aren't all that big for a competition (usually a few thousand at the most), but a lot of people do it for the money as well.
I think it's a way for people to showcase their talent and have fun while doing their hobby. What makes it even more fun is that you get to converge with different people with the same passion as yours. Isn't that wonderful?
Lots of people are motivated by the spirit of competition in general. I think competition is just part of being a social animal. It's interesting how some people are more motivated by it than others, though.
I have never been to the competitions before, but can tell you I would love to get this opportunity to go! I can just imagine all the great smells and taste available here. Without these competitions, though, how would you know what restaurants and even private people serve the best BBQ for you to go banging on the door for!
I used to date a man who love to participate in BBQ competitions. He loved to compete. He also loved picking up ideas and techniques from the other participants. As an observer, I loved eating all the different types of BBQ. It's really great to see people who put so much love and pride into their cooking. It really came through in the food. I also had a great time whenever I went.
